In just a few short weeks, California will be graced with the amazing vibes and community provided by The Do Lab’s acclaimed Music and Arts Festival, Lightning in a Bottle. Held in Bradley in just about the center of the state, LIB is the prime example of the beautiful culture of togetherness, awareness, and creativity that a music festival can bring about. There are so many things to be excited about this year, which is shaping up to be better than ever. Here are five reasons that LIB 2016 will be the best yet:
Most Impressive Lineup Yet, Whether You Know it or Not
LIB always boats an impressive lineup of established and up-and-coming artists, but even more than before, this year is honestly absolute fire. With big headlining names such as Jamie XX, Chet Faker, Four Tet, Grimes, Cashmere Cat, and Moderat to get you interested, and even more massively talented smaller names to keep you going, this year will be nothing less than huge. As a loyal fan of the Do Lab and someone who always spends most of Coachella at their stage, I am 20000% confident that all the artists they bring in, big or small, will also be absolute fire.
The well known artists’ sets are always amazing to look forward to and see, but personally I think that the best part of festivals is getting drawn in to unbelievable sets by lesser known artists when we least expect them. The Do Lab always brings in a massive diversity of genres and artists, but I can tell you one thing – I have never had a bad time at a Do LaB show. Ever. If it’s Do Lab, it’s going to be impressive, and LIB is a whole festival put on by them? Sign me up.
Amazing Stage Designs, Live Art, Installations… Did I Mention Art?!
Another thing that will unfailingly accompany the Do LaB and LIB name is unbelievable art. From colorful and intricate stage designs that toe the line between music stage and futuristic art installations, to all lots of of live art and painting, to all different kinds of big and small art pieces scattered throughout the grounds, this festival is bursting at the seams with creativity. The vibes of innovation are strong throughout the grounds of LIB, from the free-flowing fashion of festival attendees to fully immersive environments where you can create as you please. Bring your imagination and your appreciation, because both will be fully engaged at LIB.
GIRL POWER – More Female Artists Than Ever
This year the Do LaB has made a conscious effort not only to create a lineup full of diversity in genre, but also in gender! There will be more badass girls killing it up on stage this year than ever, which is something to be excited about no matter who you are. Apart from headliner Grimes, there will be performances by Alina Baraz, TOKiMONSTA, Marian Hill, Mija, Rubblebucket, and much more – who are all incredible and talented, and some of the artists I am most looking forward to for this year.
Workshops that Just Might Elevate Your Consciousness and Change Your Life
LIB is not the kind of festival you attend just to party, my friends. LIB is a festival you attend to enrich your life. It’s a lot about the music, yes, and the art is a top priority. But the workshops, gatherings, and opportunities for learning are a massive part of the whole culture surrounding Lightning in a Bottle. The Lucent Temple of Consciousness will hold dozens of workshops taught by masters, healers, and yogis all designed to open your mind, body, and heart. They have so many amazing activities planned here that are not to be missed! There will also be a Learning Kitchen to learn about healthy and sustainable eating, a Village to learn about what it means to live as a community in unison with the world, and tons of immersive and crowd-sourced environments that invite you to come in and take part in workshops and installations yourself. There will be so much to explore!
Sustainability at Its Finest, In Every Aspect of the Festival
LIB is a proud purveyor of the ‘leave no trace’ policy, and can even name itself the most environmentally conscious festival in America! That is saying a lot. The entire festival is built up and taken down with respect to the world and the environment. This attitude is carried throughout the festival by its attendees and its vendors. Recycling, trash, and even composting infrastructure will be used throughout, and free water stations will provide guests with all the hydration they need without the cost that some festivals subject their attendees to. But wait, the food. The food vendors may even be the biggest curators of sustainability at the festival, with the amazing, healthy food available raw, organic, vegetarian, non-GMO, and more – all friendly with our mother earth herself. It will be a healthy food lover’s heaven.
Tickets are still on sale for LIB, held at San Antonio Recreation Area on Memorial Day Weekend, and you can get them on their website! This year you can even get extra passes to arrive a day early so you don’t miss out on one bit of fun. I am hoping to be able to cover the festival for my blog, and will create one of my awesome all-encompassing festival guides for it. Will you be at LIB this year? Let me know; hope to see you there! x
