If you only have one day in Bangkok, here’s the best itinerary to squeeze in all of the top things that Bangkok has to offer. And this list has a LOT of things – from visiting temples to river cruises – but I know you can do this because I did this exact itinerary myself!
I spent a lot of time researching, planning, and re-planning this itinerary to make sure I could fit it all into a day in the best route possible, and it worked out wonderfully for me. It’s a completely jam-packed day, and trust me, you will be tired afterwards! But at the end of this day, you will have seen a solid selection of truly the best things to see in Bangkok, all in one day!

One Day in Bangkok Itinerary
You will want to wake up as early as you can to start this itinerary if you want to fit it all in! If you aren’t looking to do the classic touristy things to do in Bangkok (the muse-see attractions, temples, and activities) but would rather visit some more unique and off-the-beaten-track places in Bangkok, check out my article on Bangkok hidden gems here.

Floating Markets
Visiting a floating market is one of the most iconic things to do in Bangkok, so this is how we will kick off our day. But which one to visit? Well, that depends on which day of the week you will be spending your one day in Bangkok. There are some bigger and more famous floating markets on weekends, and some smaller ones during the weekdays (which is what I did).
I started my day at Wat Sai, which was a lot further away. It wasn’t much of a floating market to be honest, so I wouldn’t recommend this unless you have no other options. It did make my day, however, when a kind local offered to take me on a boat ride around the canals (which was great fun). You can also visit the most famous floating market, Damnoen Saduak, but it’s quite far and will take away from getting everything done today.
My best recommendation for a week day is that you visit Khlong Bang Luang floating market, home to the super cool ‘The Artists House.” This quirky and colorful floating market has all kinds of fun and interesting art pieces and items to browse through with canal views. There’s a restaurant, too – grab a coconut!
On the weekend, the closest big floating market to the city is Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market that will give you a fantastic floating market experience without losing out on any time to see everything else.
Visit The Grand Palace
It’s virtually impossible to miss the temples in Thailand, so you’ll have to visit a few during your day in Bangkok! We will start with the Grand Palace as it’s an absolute must-see. It’s very busy, but houses tons of different temples all in one place that are as impressive as they are historic.
Make sure to wander around as much of the grounds as you can, and don’t miss the Chapel, the temple of the Emerald Buddha, and more. To dive deeper into the history, this is a great place to get a guide.
There will be more temples later, though, so don’t spend all your energy!
Shopping and Street Food at Khao San Road
Any one day trip in Bangkok wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Khao San Road, an iconic street of Bangkok known to be a hub for tourists and backpackers, street food, bars, and nightlife. It won’t be as lively during the middle of the day as it will be later, but it;s definitely worth seeing.
As you wander down the street, you can check out bars, shops selling we*d, tattoo shops, and more importantly, tons of eat street food stalls! Pick one that looks good and grab a quick and affordable Pad Thai – another unmissable dish in Thailand.
Get a Thai Massage
As Khao San Road offers it all, it’s a great idea to stop for a massage here! For about $7 to $8 you can get a classic Thai massage, which is another must-do while in Thailand. It’s the perfect break before we more onto the rest of our (busy) one day in Bangkok!
I needed to rest off the food coma right after my Pad Thai, so I wandered into one of the many massage parlors on Khao San road. You can head inside for a massage like I did (as it was POURING rain), or you can get a nice foot massage while sitting outside (best for those who love to people watch!).
Visit a Museum
You’d best stop by at least one museum while trying to see the best of Bangkok in one day. There are a couple of options, but I recommend checking out the Museum of Siam. Not only is it really cool, but it’s a few minutes’ walk from the Grand Palace.
Not only is a visit to a museum lovely to cool off in AC, it’s a dive into the story of Thailand. When I went to the Museum of Siam, “De-Coding Thainess” was the exhibit. It shared what it means to be Thai with cool interactive exhibits representing religion, clothing, school, icons, food, and more. I’m not sure if they still have that exhibit, but the museum always has interactive and interesting exhibits about Thailand.
Some other museums in Bangkok to consider visiting are the National Bangkok Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, or the Mueang Boran Museum (no aircon for this one though!)
More Temples! Check out Wat Phra and Wat Pho Temples (the Reclining Buddha)
Now it’s time for some more temples, also a few minutes’ walk away from the museum. I planned this itinerary quite well, if I do say so myself!
Aross the street are the famous Wat Phra Temples, including Wat Pho, or the temple of the Reclining Buddha. It’s one whole area with stunningly intricate pagodas full of color and different areas to check out. The most incredible sight is the famous reclining buddha, which is a 46m-long reclining buddha statue symbolic of the Buddha beginning the process of entering Nirvana. It’s a sight to behold!
Visit Some Rooftop Bars
Bangkok is also known for its amazing rooftop bar scene, and although most of the rooftop bars are in a different part of the city, I found a super cool one right here in the tourist center. Head across the street from the Reclining Buddha to find the tiny Eagle’s Nest rooftop bar, which offers an amazing view of Wat Arun Temple across the river.
Finally, it’s time to wind down on the intense explorations and enjoy a sweeping view of Bangkok and all the boats going by with a drink in hand! I absolutely loved this view and it felt se good to finally sit down for a while after a busy day.
Back to the Hotel for a Break & Sunset (Gen Z Bistro at Grand China Hotel)
It’s already been a jam-packed day, so now it’s time to head back for a shower and a quick reset. While the day has been long, it’s not over!
This is the best time to get a break before heading back out for the evening if your hotel isn’t too far. If your hotel has a rooftop, it’s the best time to unwind and catch the sunset (& grab a drink or two). I recommend staying at the Grand China Hotel not too far away in Chinatown, which has a perfect location, amazing views, and a super cool rooftop to squeeze in.
The hotel graciously hosted me for some sunset drinks and snacks at their vibrant skyscraper rooftop bar Gen Z Bistro, and I had an amazing time trying their dishes and watching the sunset over the city. This bean bag-laden bar gives a bit of a different vibe than the tiny downtown bar we visited before, allowing you to see two different sides of Bangkok rooftop bars if you have time.
River Cruise with Dinner – Skyline + Entertainment
By this point I was exhausted – and I know you will be too – but why not squeeze in one last iconic Bangkok activity in the evening after sunset? One of the most popular tourist things to do in Bangkok is take a river cruise!
There are quite a few companies that offer these cruises (some more lively than others), and I went on the White Orchid Dinner Cruise booked on Viator. To be honest, all the river cruises are quite touristy and similar (and none of them have amazing reviews), but no matter what, it’s an unforgettable experience to see the whole lit-up city (and temples) go by from the river at night.
The dinner cruises include a massive Thai buffet with dessert, live dancing and entertainment, music, and a welcome drink (and the best part – unique views).
Iconsiam Mall (the cruise leaves from here!)
Located by the Chao Phraya River, the Iconsiam Mall is where the river cruises leave and return to, making it an easy visit — you’re literally already here!
The Iconsiam Mall is a massive 10-story mall that’s truly outstanding, so make sure to have a wander around after you get off the dinner cruise. Trust me, you’ll want to walk off all that buffet food!
It’s probably the best mall I’ve ever been to, so why not make an after dinner stroll out of it?
Sleep!
Trust me – you’ll sleep well tonight! Assuming you aren’t heading out to catch the nightlife of Bangkok after this (no judgment if so; I would have done the same if I wasn’t on such a short trip), you will be wanting to get back to your hotel as fast as possible to pass out and have a nice long sleep.
But if you want to check out the party scene, well, you know what they say about “one night in Bangkok…” the world is literally your oyster.
Where to Stay for 1 Day in Bangkok:
With this busy one-day in Bangkok itinerary, you’re gonna want somewhere cozy to pass out at the end of the day. Here are a few options of places to stay in Bangkok from budget to bougie.
Hostels:
Tepbunthom Hostel: Upscale Hostel with Pool & Free Breakfast
The Tepbunthom Hostel offers both shared and private rooms. With the private rooms starting around $35 USD, it’s quite a steal compared to other hotels in this list. The rooms have a historical and regal vibe to them that presents beautifully.
Not to mention, the hostel is within 10-minutes walking from Khao San Road and offers a free breakfast serving eggs and fresh fruit. It’s a great location for the adventures in this itinerary!
Ti Thong Hostel: Hostel with a Rooftop Bar
The Ti Thong Hostel brings the best of both worlds with a great price and a rooftop bar (not as cool as the Gran China’s but still nice). The hostel offers dorm and private rooms with modern design and a large lounge area. You can also buy breakfast for about $3.
Mid to High Price Range Bangkok Hotels (in order from lowest to highest):
CORRIDOR 2407: Private Studio
While Corridor 2407 is a hotel, its amenities and chic interior design give it a truly homey feeling. There are a variety of studios to choose from, some including large window views and a bathtub! It’s located near the Grand Palace and Khao San Road, making it easy to access the best of Bangkok.
Grand China Bangkok: Cute Boutique Hotel with Rooftop Bar
The Grand China is the cute hotel I stayed in during this one day in Bangkok. Its rooms are colorful (& a bit artistic) and they have amazing rooms available with outdoor baths and patios with expansive views. The amenities such as the rooftop bar at Gen Z Bistro make it the place to stay for a Bangkok sunset!
1905 Heritage Corner: Beautiful Historic Hotel
While the 1905 Heritage Hotel doesn’t offer all the bells and whistles like the others (like a rooftop or a pool), it does offer a unique stay. The accommodation offers limited rooms, exceptional service, and a breakfast guests rave about. The building is also quite old and colonial, offering an experience you don’t get these days with newer hotels, also steps from the Grand Palace.
