Best Breakfast in Fitzroy Melbourne: 10 DELICIOUS Cafes

Looking for the best breakfast Fitzroy can offer? You will be truly spoilt for choice in this Melbourne foodie neighborhood with TONS of amazing brekky spots.

Fitzroy’s breakfast and brunch miiiight just rival the best breakfast and brunch in the Melbourne CBD, which I also spent a lot of time ‘researching’ during my 3+ years in Melbourne. What can I say? I just LOVE a good breakfast, and Melbourne has proven to be one of the best places in the WORLD to find one.

Below are all my favorite brunch and breakfast spots in Fitzroy that serve up delicious classic Melbourne spreads with some unique dishes thrown in there. You might have to make time to return many times, because all of these breakfasts in Fitzroy are worth trying!

Make sure to learn more about the epic things to do and places to eat in Fitzroy in my guide below:

Best Breakfast Fitzroy: Cute Sit-Down Spots

If you have time to sit down, these are some places you should take friends to, take your laptop to, or just take a good book. These spots have the atmosphere perfected and of course, the food and coffee too.

Bentwood

One word: YUM.

Bentwood is a very trendy spot in the heart of Fitzroy. It has a large open plan with a great menu and coffee. The high ceilings let tons of light in, and a view of the local street outside, where you can watch the world go by with a hot coffee in hand.

They have a great selection of creative dishes to choose from, and their rostis are UNBELIEVABLE.

Industry Beans

Industry Beans Patio

Industry beans have not only one of the best breakfasts Fitzroy can offer, but Melbourne as a whole! This place ticks all the boxes – cozy, green atmosphere (with patio), incredible coffee (with its own menu detailing origins, washes, and flavors), and great breakfast options.

Here, you can go simple with smashed avo and toast, or get crazy with smoothie bowls or colorful toasts piled high with yummy ingredients.

Stagger Lee’s

Stagger Lee’s is one of the most well-known Fitzroy breakfast spots for a good reason. It presents exactly what you would expect from a Fitzroy brunch – almost-too-creative menu options with ingredients you never knew would mix so well together and coffee in ways you didn’t know was possible.

This is all in a worn-brick-laden room with high ceilings, glass walls letting in tons of natural light, and modern lighting. Yes, please.

Archie’s All Day

Archie’s

Archie’s is a great brunch spot on Gertrude Street, down the inner bottom end of Fitzroy. Archie’s is a bit smaller but usually bustling, crowded, and lively.

They have a few seats out front and squeeze more people inside their cute pastel-colored interior. It’s simply delightful. I got these Maxican-inspired eggs which were delicious!

Faraday’s Cage

This is one of my FAVORITE Fitzroy breakfast options. It is a large cafe that is open on two sides – one side opens up to Chapel St (one of the best places for street art in Fitzroy) and the other on larger Gore Street.

The venue of Faraday’s Cage is sooo cute. It has that trendy worn look and has tons of plants and greenery inside and large wooden tables. All the food is presented in a beautiful way as well if you couldn’t tell already from the photos.

BLONDE. Food and Drink

This is a newer brunch spot that has taken the top end of Brunswick Street by storm. They have really nailed the classic Melbourne brunch menu with a creative twist and fun presentation, joined with a great lineup of coffees (of course).

Dishes that stand out here are the lamb hash, the chilli scramble, and halloumi fritters – but everything here is good, as stated by the 4.8 review on Google Maps which is nearly unattainable in Melbourne!

Cromwell STREAT Cafe

Cromwell STREAT

This is another of my favorite cafes in Fitzroy. STREAT is a philanthropic organization that has five cafes in Melbourne, and while this one is technically in Collingwood, its one of my favorite spots in Melbourne.

It’s got a sunlit eating area and a beautiful green courtyard. There’s plenty of space to bring a laptop and enjoy the fairy-lit and plant-filled space. Get the halloumi beet hash.

Slowpoke Espresso

Slowpoke is a tiny cafe at the base of Brunswick Street. It’s very easy to miss, so keep your eyes out! The best part of this restaurant is the tiny garden out the back with a couple of small tables under leafy green vines.

Get a table back here if you can, and enjoy a calm breakfast away from the rush of Melbourne that feels like you’re in a neighbor’s yard. They have some delicious classic Aussie brekky options here; you can’t go wrong.

Addict Food and Coffee

Addict Food and Coffee is a simple and smaller Fitzroy breakfast joint that should not be understated. Serving breakfast all day, Addict would be a great stop before work, for lunch, or even later in the day.

You can get everything here, from healthy puddings to indulgent French toasts and even burgers later in the day.

If you need to grab something quickly, here are some of your best options.

Lune Croissanterie

Lune is a Melbourne staple. Some even say the croissants here are BETTER than in France! If you want a taste of a delicious, flaky, buttery croissant of perfection, head to Lune.

They have everything from normal croissants to the fanciest almond and/or chocolate croissants and beyond. It’s worth trying at least once. Just prepare to possibly wait in line.

Brunswick Street Alimentari

Brunswick Street Alimentari is first and foremost a deli, but has grown into a trendy restaurant that still doubles as a deli. For this reason, it’s a perfect quick food stop, but can also be a sit-down meal if you’d like.

This might look like more of a Fitzroy brunch option, with amazing paninis, a Mediterranean influence, and a wine list to die for. But, they also have a full list of breakfast options from fritters to hotcakes.

Burnside

Pick up a coffee and a hot sandwich to go at this unfussy little corner spot.

After Eating your Way Around Fitzroy

Have you chosen a place for Fitzroy breakfast, explored Fitzroy, and are ready for the night? I also have a guide to Fitzroy bars. The bars of this suburb are equally impressive as its breakfast options, and you can find incredibly crafted cocktails in super cool settings from secret attics to rooftops.

I also have a guide to the Best Hidden Bars in Melbourne as I actually used to run tours to hidden bars for half a year. It’s so fun!
