Summer is when you’ll want to hit the Great Salt Lake and Bonneville Salt Flats (though watch out for the heat), spring is cherry blossom season at the Capitol, and winter obviously brings the best of Utah Olympic Park’s snowy activities. I’ve visited SLC in every season, and honestly, fall might be my favorite — fewer crowds, perfect hiking weather, and the mountain backdrop is on fire with autumn colors.

As the 8th-largest salt lake in the world and the largest in the Western Hemisphere, it’s a must-visit, whether you want to take a dip or simply enjoy a day in Utah’s natural scenery. And somehow, this is an activity that many visitors to Salt Lake City miss out on.
Quick note: The Great Salt Lake has been experiencing record-low water levels in recent years, which has made swimming less accessible at times. Before you make the drive out to Antelope Island, I’d check current conditions on the Utah State Parks website. Even if the water’s too low for a float, the island itself is stunning — you can hike, spot bison roaming wild, and take in some of the most unique landscapes in Utah. The sunsets out here are absolutely unreal.

Randy’s Record Shop is one of the best hidden gems in Salt Lake City for vinyl collectors and they even carry turntables, CDs, and cassettes. It’s a living throwback to before everything went digital!
Opened in 1978, Randy’s shop is a great place to visit if you share his passion for oldies and records, and it’s a unique spot since record shops like his aren’t easy to come by anymore!
