After growing up in Laguna Niguel my entire life, I think the funniest thing about the things to do in Laguna Niguel is that there are really only a few of them.
Laguna Niguel is truly the definition of a suburb. It’s safe; it’s got tons of schools and shopping centers; it’s got great housing and it’s quite affluent. It’s got wide sidewalks, walking trails, big backyards, and… more shopping centers. But other than great living conditions, it doesn’t have TOO much else in terms of activities.
I say this with the utmost love, but most of the main ‘activities’things to do’ in my dear hometown actually take place just across the border in other towns… Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and Mission Viejo, to name a few. We drive to these places to take care of a lot of our tasks, like shopping, gyms, outdoor adventures, beaches, and more.

A simple Google search will show you that rather than list things to do in *actual* Laguna Niguel, most articles will list out activities in Laguna Beach (they are NOT the same even if they both start with ‘Laguna’ :P)
Anyway, I am here to transcend all the robotic article nonsense and share with you a real, honest truthful blog post about Laguna Niguel activities (with shopping and some restaurants, too). I had to get a little creative to think of some of these, but I’ve managed to produce a full article on things to do in Laguna Niguel, and Laguna Niguel ALONE! But if you’re looking for other towns, I will have articles on those too:
For now, here are the very best things to do in Laguna Niguel! When you look at it through the below spots, it’s really not too bad after all.
Laguna Niguel Regional Park

This park really is stunning, and it’s one of the top things to do in Laguna Niguel for a reason! With the large Laguna Niguel Lake (home to funny geese), a huge grassy park featuring sports fields, and a wooded canyon full of trails, this park is truly impressive for Laguna Niguel.
I used to have cross country meets here when I was in high school, and even on evening walks around LN Regional park these days, I still remember my race courses.
Laguna Niguel Regional Park is a lovely place to have a morning run, evening sunset walk (sunsets over the lake are stunning), or really any recreational activities from tennis to fishing in the lake to picnics to games on the grass. Oh, and there are barbecues! Don’t tell anyone I told you this, but you can skirt the parking fees if you walk into the park by the tunnel off La Paz.
Aliso + Woods Canyon Wilderness Parks

The massive Aliso + Woods Canyon parks span between our lovely Laguna Niguel, a lot of Laguna Beach, and Aliso Viejo. You can actually enter one of the main trails that traces along Aliso Creek itself from right behind Laguna Niguel Regional Park. It’s a great walk, run, or bike ride!
Some of the best trails and hikes in Laguna Niguel are within this park. One of my top recommendations is the Aliso Summit Trail, which goes between Pacific Island Drive and Rideview Dr in Kite Hill. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can connect some of these trails with hiking trails in Laguna Beach.
This is one of a few ‘wilderness parks’ in Orange County, meaning it’s true nature with the possibility of running into wild animals.
Orange County Natural History Museum, Laguna Niguel

OK, I’ll be the first to admit that I had no idea this existed. But look, a fun Laguna Niguel activity! Yay! This museum (I think it’s just the visitor center) is located in Aliso + Woods Canyon Park on Alicia and will give you some interesting info about the park and area.
Laguna Niguel Farmers Market
The Laguna Niguel Farmers Market is a Sunday morning staple, located up in a shopping center on La Paz. If you’re looking for things to do in Laguna Niguel on the weekend, this is one of the most ‘happening’ options!
There are dozens of vendors here serving up all kinds of homemade products and food and home-grown produce. From flowers to juices to fruits to baked goods, you’re sure to find goodies here. Check their website for the current exhibitors.
Crown Valley Community Park/Niguel Botanical Preserve

Lookee, another park! The Crown Valley Community Park is home to the Niguel Botanical Preserve, which contains some of the most diverse plant species in the area. You can walk miles of wildland trails while learning about different flowers, bushes, and trees – over 2000 species to be exact. There are lots of beautiful nooks and views in this park if you get lost enough. It’s a fab dog walking spot, making it a perfect place to visit for those who have a service dog for assistance.
The Crown Valley Community Park is a place I spent MANY weekends all of my life, from NJB basketball to soccer tournaments to dog walks to painting tiles to put in a garden for Girl Scouts (I think they’re still there). It’s close to my heart and can provide a great time in nature, too.
Crown Valley YMCA and Pool/Aquatic Center

Next to Crown Valley Park is the Laguna Niguel Aquatic Center: a large pool with diving boards that you can pay a small fee to enter. They have designated times for swimming laps, free swimming, and diving. It’s a great public pool.
There are also basketball courts, a youth YCMA, soccer fields, and more. But for the sake of fun things to do in Laguna Niguel, visiting the pool is a great activity.
Summer Concerts in the Park June-August

Speaking of Crown Valley Park, there are some amazing little concerts on the big green amphitheatre-style grass hill there in the summers known as the ‘City of Laguna Niguel Parks & Recreation Summer Concerts.’ There are cover bands and the like who set up live on warm summer evenings and play music to families and friends sitting on picnic blankets.
This is one of the best ways to spend a summer night in Laguna Niguel – pack your picnic basket and bring the whole family!
Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas Laguna Niguel

This is the pinnacle of luxury cinema and I couldn’t recommend trying it more! These cinemas graced the Ocean Ranch shopping center while I was in college, and it was always the COOL thing to do!
This is the kind of cinema where you can share a big cozy double seat with your loved one, order hot food and bottles of wine, and snuggle up with great service. If you haven’t been to a movie in a while and are looking for fun things to do in Laguna Niguel, why not check out the luxurious Cinepolis?
Golfing at El Niguel Country Club

Why yes, there’s a massive and great golf course spreading through the center of Laguna Niguel and reaching almost to Salt Creek Beach. It’s a highly rated golf course, but what people really rave about at the El Niguel Country Club are the social events.
There is always something fun going on there for golfers and their loved ones to enjoy together. Or, you can, of course, enjoy a day on the course under the pristine, always-sunny Orange County weather.
Salt Creek Trail/Chapparosa Trail

This is my FAVORITE trail in Laguna Niguel that goes from Chapparosa Park/Marina Hills area to Salt Creek Beach through San Juan Canyon. This vast expanse of canyon between Beacon and Marina Hills turns into bushland in Salt Corridor Regional Park (which is a new name, I think). This then passes the golf course (above) and heads straight to the beach!
If that was all confusing, just check the names on Google Maps. It’s one of the best walks, runs, or bike rides in the area. Coming up on the beautiful blue sea over Monarch Beach is a wonderful reward at the end of the trail.
Walking + Ocean Views at Badlands Park

Badland Park has got to be my very favorite view in Laguna Niguel. Located up at the top of Pacific Island Drive, you can get views ALL over Laguna Niguel to Dana Point to Laguna Beach from here. There are some trails up here, but nothing too long, that look out over the sunset over the ocean in Laguna Beach.
It’s a simply stunning spot for the whole family. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view, even for those who don’t want to walk far.
“The Ridge:” Colinas Ridge Trail + Bluff Trail

The Colinas Ridge Trail, or as locals call it, ‘the Ridge,’ is a beautiful trail following the ridge of the massive hills that separate Laguna Niguel from the Trabuco Creek (and 5 freeway) below. The views from up here are beautiful throughout, and you’ll come across some pretty steep climbs as you go. Bluff Trail is a similar trail a bit farther north.
If you want to, you can actually hike from here down into San Juan Capistrano and eventually to Doheny Beach. Everything is interconnected through the bush in Laguna Niguel!
Laguna Niguel Shopping
Laguna Niguel has a LOT of shopping centers at most intersections of main roads. Among all the different restaurants and supermarkets, there are actually a lot of great places to go shopping. These are my favorites:
- Nordstrom Rack: This is a HUGE Nordstrom Rack with lots of brand-name clothes for a fraction of the price. You can usually find lots of gems here.
- Kohl’s: I used to love this place when I was younger, as we always got great deals here. They usually have good prices and good quality clothes.
- Marshall’s: My FAVORITE store where you never know what you can find, but you can be sure it is heavily discounted. From clothes to housewares to shoes to everything in between.
- There’s also Target, Walmart, Costco, Party City, Hobby Lobby, Whole Foods, Walgreens and such. I can’t believe I am listing this in an article but I guess this is what people in Laguna Niguel want. I told you, it’s a SUBURBAN suburb. 😛
Check Out the Laguna Niguel Skateboard and Soccer Park

Laguna Niguel has its very own skate park with all different levels of difficulty if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand (or… your feet) at having a skate. You can pay with a membership or a one-time entry. The soccer field next door is made of astroturf if you want to kick around.
Other Parks in Laguna Niguel

Laguna Niguel sure does have a lot of parks! Many of them are just green fields with the occasional jungle gym and sports field, but if you are looking for that kind of thing, here they are:
- Seaview Park: This is near Badlands park but not as good. Some call this Laguna Niguel’s Top of the World.
- Chapparosa Park: Nestled in the nook of San Juan Canyon, this is at the beginning of the Salt Creek Trail and also very close to ‘The Ridge’ too. There are soccer and baseball fields here.
- Laguna Niguel Dog park (Pooch Park): This is worth mentioning for anyone who has a doggo that likes going off the leash.
Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel
Did you know Laguna Niguel USED to be coastal until Dana Point took the land away from us? It’s true. The Ritz Carlton was built when Laguna Niguel had a beach… Salt Creek Beach. Everything became Dana Point except the Ritz, which is still called the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel for this reason. We couldn’t lose our special piece of clifftop luxury.
The Ritz is obviously one of the best places to stay around here, and has some lovely walking trails. But I mostly included it in this list to tell you that fun fact. I don’t think Laguna Niguel has any hotels, either, so your best bet is to stay at the Ritz.
Laguna Niguel Restaurants
This town really has a quick turnover rate with restaurants, especially in the prime locations in the big shopping centers. But as per my current understanding and checking, these are the BEST.
Caló Kitchen + Tequila
This is a newer restaurant in the Greenfield center we have frequented for a few years now, and it is simply AMAZING! My family and I adore this place as a fancier sit-down restaurant with cocktails or for takeout. It’s Mexican food, but with a creative modern flare. Yum.
Plumeria Cafe by Stacks Pancake House
Laguna Niguel FINALLY got its very own cute brunch spot! Yay! Plumeria Cafe is super cute with even better food. It’s a pancake house but they serve all kinds of eggs and other deliciousness too.
Baja Fish Tacos and Baja Fresh
Sorry to pool these together but they are truly Laguna Niguel’s best fast Mexican food and they can be picked up, ordered, and taken away also. They’re both a bit different from each other in style so I guess you have to try both.

Avila’s El Ranchito – Laguna Niguel
You can’t go wrong with El Ranchito. It’s good Mexican food on the more authentic side, and they have a nice patio.
Jizake Sushi + Good Choice Sushi
Our local little sushi spots. Always good.

Golden Spoon
This is the BEST frozen yogurt that has TRULY stood the test of time. This place has been there for decades. They must be doing something right.
Things to Do in Laguna Niguel at Night
Nothing at all! Ha, just kidding. Much to my adult surprise, there are actually a couple of bars in LN that are pretty fun. Or, you can always hack the sprinkler system on the Salt Creek Hill and create your own slip-n-slide with a tarp, like we did when we were teenagers. No? Ok, keep reading.
The Original Patsy’s Irish Pub Laguna Niguel
Yep, Laguna Niguel has its very own Irish Pub! It’s in the small shopping center off Golden Lantern and Niguel, and apparently, it’s known to go off on some weekends. Time for a Guinness!
Other Things to Do AROUND Laguna Niguel You should Know About
I KNOW I told you I would write the article about Laguna Niguel only, but there are some things around here that you should know about.

Check out Laguna Beach
So close in location and name that people often confuse the two, Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach are like sisters… but Laguna Beach is the cooler sister. You can’t miss checking out Laguna Beach if you have time, and there are some parts that are very close to LN.
The Laguna Canyon Winery is a popular spot for people from all around to visit and taste some local wine in Laguna Canyon.
Laguna Beaches are incredible and perfect for a beach day. My favorites are Victoria, Table Rock, West St, and Thousand Steps. The closest Laguna public beach to Laguna Niguel is Thousand Steps Beach, only 5-10 minutes depending on location. There are also some fun tide pools in Laguna.
It’s worth checking out Laguna Beach Art Galleries as they are spread all throughout the town. It’s hard to walk around Laguna Beach without spotting some art, whether it’s a gallery or a mural on the street. You can also go to Laguna Art Museum.

Explore Dana Point
Dana Point is where I went to high school and spent probably the majority of my time growing up. Dana Point also has some lovely places to visit and beaches to relax on too.
Try surfing at Doheny State Beach, one of the BEST places to learn surfing or catch some more relaxed waves.
Take a walk in Dana Point Harbor for a relaxing morning, and make sure to stop at Coffee Importers for a California Bagel and a coffee! If you can make it, walk up to the Dana Point Headlands too.
Don’t forget to visit Salt Creek Beach if you haven’t already taken the Chapparosa Trail there that I mentioned above! It’s a large public beach but my favorite thing to do there is to bring a picnic to watch the sunset from the big hill up above it.
