We have found some unique places to stay in Ohio, the “Buckeye State,” that are perfect for an interesting getaway. With five major cities to visit in the state, you might want to check in to some of these great hotels and Airbnbs/rentals all around Ohio from the cities to the country.
We were blown away by the range of unique stays in Ohio. Let’s just say – for a state not super famous for its tourism, it has a LOT of worthwhile stays and getaways you won’t find anywhere else.

Unique Ohio Yurt: The Hummingbird Yurt
If you have never heard of a luxury yurt before, now is your chance to stay in one. This unique Ohio yurt is 20 square feet and situated in Hocking Hills, Ohio – which is also home to some amazing Ohio Treehouses. This yurt has a large queen bed, kitchenette, and bathroom with a shower all packed inside.
Hocking Hills is one of our favorite places to explore in Ohio. It’s full of beautiful forests and quite a few unique stays and treehouses like this one here.
There is also a wonderful firepit outside, but if you get too cold outside you can get back in the yurt as it is temperature-controlled. This is one of the things that makes it a truly luxurious accommodation. The yurt also comes with a pool table, darts, and a bunch of board games in the pole barn.
Unique Treehouse in Ohio: Hocking Hills Treehouse
This dream treehouse has a small and unique studio feel to it that will make you instantly feel at home. It is in close proximity to Old Man’s Cave, Ash Cave, and the popular Cedar Falls. The modern-meets-rustic design of this treehouse is one of its best aspects.
It comes with heating and air conditioning, but unfortunately no wifi – making it a great place to get away from it all with friends or family. Although it is a studio, it can still sleep up to 4 guests. Be sure to check out the nearby nature and walks among other attractions in neighboring towns.
Unique Ohio Big-City Hotel: Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade
While still being a large hotel chain, the Hyatt regency still deserves a spot for the most unique places to stay in Ohio because it’s situated around a large historic arcade. The center of the hotel is a 5-story arcade with a windowed roof that lets in natural sunlight.
Located in central Cleveland, this amazing hotel is close to EVERYTHING you would want to visit in the city, and also has a fascinating history of its own. Or, you can go shopping within the arcade itself and enjoy a coffee amongst the bustling pathways.
Luxurious Cave Mansion: “The Cave”
The Cave in Rockbridge, Ohio is truly one of the most unique places to stay in Ohio and perfect for small company retreats, group trips, and family vacations. The Cave combines the raw beauty of nature with upscale interior design, and has large windows allowing natural light to flow in.
On the inside, you’ll find two bedrooms (with a kind size and twin bed in each), a full kitchen, claw-foot bathtubs, living room and dining area. Just outside, there’s a large patio with a grill, lounge chairs, and a jacuzzi!
Aside from being able to admire the epic cave interiors, there’s also private hiking trails on the grounds to take in green views and soak in the sunshine.
Beautiful Ohio Nature Getaway: Mohicans Treehouse Resort
The Mohicans is one of the most incredible unique places to stay in Ohio as it’s a fun ‘Treehouse resort” comprised of many different sizes of elevated treehouse-style rooms and some cabins.
You can book 1 bedroom or studio treehouses for an Ohio couples getaway, or you can go all the way up to 4+ bedrooms cabins that can fit a whole wedding party of up to 17 people! It’s super popular for weddings and is often booked out for them.
Close by the resort is Mohicans State Park where there are wonderful walks and nature, and also some wineries where you can taste local wines by the glass. Below is the Manor Treehouse, but check the website for tons more options!
Unique Old-Fashioned Ohio Hotel: Market Street Inn
The Market Street Inn is an old Victorian-style home in Wooster that was converted into a wonderful Bed and Breakfast. This charming house is one of our favorites – it has wonderful wooden hallways that replicate the 1800s. The rooms on the other hand boast a more modern and yet homely feel.
There is a garden, a shared lounge area, and more beautiful spaces. Most guests enjoy hiking and cycling while staying in Wooster. They also offer a tasty American breakfast and also a vegetarian option.
60’s Ohio Lake Getaway for Groups: Glasshouse Cedar Point
As modern as this home looks, it was actually built in 1960 by an associate of Frank Lloyd Wright. It boasts large windows that overlook a private beach on Lake Erie. It is perfect for families and groups as the rather large accommodation sleeps up to 10 guests.
The home is perfect for a summer getaway in Sandusky, Ohio. You can learn parasailing on the lake or visit the Cedar Point amusement park that is located nearby. Or, you can just gaze out the window at the epic views!
Unique Ohio City Accommodation Rental: Welcome to the Jungle House Columbus
If you plan on visiting Columbus, you will love staying in this city bungalow. This modern home has lots of wonderful decor and plants that work well together. The plants are mostly rare and are from different parts of the world, giving a green ang jungle-y vibe through the place. The hardwood floors are newly restored and the main bedroom has a California King size bed that looks very comfy.
This is a great place to stay if you are heading to the nearby convention center or the Nationwide Arena. There is a fully equipped kitchen, high-speed internet, 55-inch smart TV. The home has 2 bedrooms and can sleep up to 6 guests.
Unusual Fairytale Castle Getaway: Landoll’s Mohican Castle
Not to be confused with The Mohicans Treehouse Resort, Landoll’s Mohican Castle is a totally different kind of unique place to stay in Ohio and would be our top pick for a unique stay if you can manage it. A true large castle, each room in this fascinating accommodation is designed totally differently and with old-fashioned decor.
Some of the rooms are actually within the castle and som eare not, so make sure to look out for what kind of room you want. The most unique rooms in my opinion are Miller, Landoll, Lawrence, and Hardesty if you can take your pick.
The area is perfect for outdoor adventures and walks among the forest, and the property itself is complete with an indoor pool, hot tub, restaurant, bar, and even a billiards table. It’s a relly fun getaway, and you can stay in a REAL castle!
Most Unique Historic Stay: 1926 Railway Caboose near Hocking Hills
This little red caboose is located by Hocking Hills State Park and is the perfect compliment to any trip in the area. The 1926 caboose has a kitchenette, deck, two twin beds, and bathroom — so although it looks small on the outside, you have everything you could need inside. With not too many nearby restaurants, be sure to bring your own food to cook or heat up in the microwave.
One issue (or blessing) about staying here is the weak WiFi and cell phone signal. With nearby hiking, a fire pit and BBQ, you have the perfect excuse to disconnect, and even heat up a s’more or three over the fire!
Most Fun Ohio Place to Stay: Great Wolf Lodge (Cincinnati/Mason, Ohio)
This hotel, while not very boutique, is definitely one of the most unique places to stay in Ohio for families. Complete with a massive indoor/outdoor water park and also kid-friendly themed parts of rooms, it would be so much fun for a family getaway… that’s not to say adults can’t get involved too, however!
You can also visit this water park as a fun day trip from Cincinnati with your loved ones. Or, maybe it a weekend getaway and stay a couple of nights to get away!
Get lost in the water slides, grab a floaty ring, or swim in the wave pool at their location either in Mason in northern Ohio or right in Cincinnatti. No matter which location you choose, you’ll have plenty to do in the area – or you can just play in the water and eat at the buffets all day. Take your pick!
