Zip lining in Croatia should be on any adventurous person’s bucket list who is visiting this country. Zip lining here is just different. I have heard the same story a thousand times… “Well, I have been zip lining before.”
Yeah, but have you been zip lining between towering rocky mountains and over an emerald green river? Have you done 70km/h 150m above one of the most amazing views you’ve ever seen? Yeah, didn’t think so. If you have been zip lining before, I think it’s time for you to go again. I have been in a few different countries and none hold a candle to this experience… so much so that I have been zip lining in Croatia three times!
Pin this to save it for later?
If you don’t know me already, I have been a tour guide in Croatia for three summers (enabling me to write my Tour Guide’s Super-Guide to Croatia right here which should have any and all info you could ever need to know about the country. Seriously.). Each week, zip lining is an optional activity for my passengers. And each week, over half my group go. And after almost 30 weeks I have never had anyone tell me they didn’t enjoy it!
What makes Zip lining in Croatia so different is because it is held in the beautiful mountains behind Omiš (Oh-meesh). Omiš is the cute little town where the Cetina River winds through and emerges from the mountains right into the crystal blue Adriatic Sea. Omiš is just about the end of the Makarska Riviera, which is characterized by tall and defined gray rocky mountains jutting right up above the water. And, you guessed it, this is where the zip lining takes place. It’s definitely a thrill, but it’s worth every ounce of worry when you are wizzing through the air looking at that view.

We like to call it, ‘the Machu Picchu of Croatia!”
Zip lining in Croatia goes a little something like this:
Meet & Greet
First, you meet at the adventure center in Omiš to get your gear. You make sure you have on comfortable clothing, closed-toed shoes, and a backpack to keep your belongings safe. You’ll get a harness, a helmet, and gloves to help you brake. But not to worry- there are still systems in place if you forget to brake (although I would recommend not to! :P)
Up to the zip line starting point + training
Next, you pile into vans that will take you up the hill (not to worry, they won’t make you walk up!). Once there, you will get in groups and do a gentle walk up to the training point. Here they will clip you in on a short test line one by one, and teach you how to go and stop.
Once everyone passes the training, it’s time to climb up to the first of eight ziplines – the highest and fastest! They make sure you get your fear over with right away here by starting with the scariest (or, if you ask me, most thrilling) one! On this one you are allowed to go with a friend or an instructor if you are a bit scared.
Not a bad view for a selfie
A pano from the first line!
8 different zip lines – from the top to the bottom!
The first one is 400m long and 150m high. You will get panoramic views of the mountains and river as you fly through the air – just make to remember to brake after gaping at the view!
Next, you will slowly make your way down the mountain via 7 more zip lines. You usually need your hands to brake, but on two of the lines the instructors will allow you to use one hand to hold a camera or selfie stick. These lines are perfectly scenic, and you can get the river and mountains behind you in one easy selfie. You can even stop right over the river on the second-to-last line just to take in the moment and the beauty.
Most lines start right next to where the last one ends, so there isn’t much walking after the first one. But there’s plenty of time to take in the moment with your friends, and enjoy your time zip lining in Croatia.
