13 Bali Bamboo House Hotels and Villas for a Perfect Eco-Getaway

We have all seen beautiful Bali Bamboo House photos on social media. There are hundreds of photos going around of dreamy bamboo villas and hotels with thatched roofs and net beds, set deep in a green and luscious jungle and often with a canyon or rice field view.

Sound familiar? Well, I am here to let you know exactly which Bali bamboo house accommodation options are which, where they are located, and what you should know before visiting them. I have either visited or familiarized myself with all of these bamboo houses and eco villa options while living in Bali for a few years.

You may think that there are mostly Ubud bamboo houses, but there are actually many in the Sideman and Badung areas and also a few that are more off-the-beaten-track too. Some bamboo houses in Bali are truly one-off and only have one house, while others are part of a hotel or larger property with multiple rentable airbnbs or houses. I’ve broken this list down by approximate location and included anything I think you should know about them beforehand!

Amazing Bamboo Houses in Ubud, Bali

I will begin here because everyone assumes that each Bali Bamboo house is in Ubud anyway! Here are some awesome unique & boutique bamboo airbnbs, eco villas, and houses in Ubud if you want to discover beautiful hidden gems in Bali.

Firefly Eco Lodge

Firefly Eco Lodge is located very close to the Ubud city center and consists of 11 completely different beds/rooms. It is the most well-known for its 4-story ‘Birdsnest’ bamboo house, which actually separately rents out each of 3 stories where you must climb to your room with a ladder. It’s not the most private or luxurious thing, but it’s surely a unique (and photogenic) experience you’ll never forget!

They also offer a more secluded bamboo house, as well as a few other treehouse-style rooms on the property. If outdoor living isn’t for you, you can rent one of 4 indoor rooms that close fully to the outside and open up to a beautiful living room, pool, and swing.

New Earth Haven Bamboo Domes

New Earth Haven is well known in the Ubud community for hosting events and workshops, as well as for Akasha Restaurant. They have movie nights, painting nights, sound healing, ecstatic dance, and more – and a couple sought-after ‘bio-architecture’ eco domes you can stay in.

The Villa Akasha Eco Dome is larger, more intricate, and very bamboo with an incredible lotus-like degisn, while the Villa Akasha Guest Suite is newer and slightly smaller. THere are a few other interior roms on the property, also amazing.

These sustainable bamboo eco villa Bali domes are not far from the main restaurant, which is in Tegallalang and about a 15-20 minute (beautiful) drive from central Ubud. This would be a great place to stay for a bit of a getaway and to experience a few Akasha events and/or visit the Tegallalang rice terraces, but not to experience Ubud from.

Stone House Bali – Bamboo Treehouse Room

Stone House is another Ubud property with a beautiful variation in accommodation style. It’s located a few miles north of the Ubud City center – no more than 5 minutes by scooter. With 6 completely different rooms/villas available for booking, there’s a bit of something for everyone. But if you are looking for an amazing bamboo house Bali can offer, you’ll want to book the Treehouse room.

The treehouse room at Stone House Bali has incredible web-like bamboo architecture and is shaped like an open cocoon. It’s actually propped up on huge bamboo stilts, and has an outdoor balcony bath, shower, and huge net bed across the front. It’s pretty incredible and very unique!

Escape in Bali

Escape in Bali is a beautiful and very remote Bali bamboo house in the jungle. Located 30 minutes outside Ubud (to the north, past Tegallalang), it’s best experienced as a getaway in nature – possibly even a romantic one! You will be the only one around when you visit this amazing Bali bamboo Airbnb house, as there is only one.

The Bali bamboo eco villa property has a downstairs lounge area, beautiful bathroom, huge outdoor tub, open kitchen space, a net bed, and a closable bedroom (which is amazing to keep bugs out of these Bali bamboo houses). The area is beautiful and green, and surely everything one could want from a Bali escape – hence the name!

Zen Hideaway Bamboo Eco Villa Bali

Zen Hideaway is another well-known eco Ubud bamboo house accommodation. It is apparently where the first ‘Bali Swing’ is located, with a view over a high river canyon. It’s only a few miles from Ubud, but because of the crazy Bali canyons, it will take over 20 minutes to drive there.

Zen Hideaway is comprised of 3 different houses built from bamboo, some other wood, and polished concrete too. All houses have an absolutely spectacular canyon/river view – with a distant waterfall visible in the jungle. Zen Hideaway 3 has a comfy net bed, which draws many people in. Zen Hideaway 1 and 2 feel a bit more like a bamboo house, however.

Bambu Indah Ubud Bali Luxury Bamboo Eco Villas

Bambu Indah is a very unique Ubud Bali bamboo hotel with about 20 rentable houses – all in completely different styles. Some are constructed of Javanese wood while others are amazing bamboo creations, each in their own style. Located 5-10 minutes by scooter from Ubud center, this is a great option to feel remote while actually being quite close to everything.

If you are looking for a unique Bali bamboo house, you should check out Bambu Indah’s Moon House, Sumba House, Copper House, Guadua House, Riverbend House, and Pagoda House. All houses are worth having a look at, though – they are all unique, luxurious, and gorgeous for those who want more luxury and hospitality from an actual hotel rather than a remote house.

Badung Bali Bamboo House Options

Here are the best options for a Bali bamboo house, eco villa, and hotel in the Badung Region.

Ulaman Bamboo Eco Retreat – Tabanan

Ulaman Rooms

Ulaman Eco Retreat is a newer boutique hotel located about 30 minutes from both Canggu and Ubud, in a remote rice field/jungle area of Tabanan. This boutique property has 8 identical bamboo eco-luxe private pool rooms and 3 even more luxurious and spacious ‘cocoon’ rooms that branch off the main hotel building

The newer section of the hotel is like something from another world, with a section of truly impressive pod rooms, with ‘floating lake’ rooms and ‘avatar treehouse’ rooms perched above them (you’ll see what I mean when you click the link).

Ulaman has some very unique buildings as part of the property, such as a shell-like spa room, a beautiful folded yoga shala overlooking the property, and beautiful sweeping bamboo archways above the restaurant and pool. The walls were made from ‘rammed earth,’ with everything else bamboo and wood, making it a sustainable eco-resort.After their phase 2 expansions they ha e more room, dining areas, and a hydro turbine to generate power from the meeting of 2 rivers on the property.

Ulaman has a fabulous restaurant on-site, as well as yoga teachers and retreats that take place there as well. You don’t need to go anywhere else for a getaway! Read more about my experience at Ulaman here.

Green Village Bali Bamboo Houses

Green Village is a true community of nature and sustainability-loving individuals coexisting together. It’s an entire community created by Ibuku architects, which is also connected to Bali’s famous Green School and a bamboo factory too. While some people live on-site, they also offer up a number of houses for people to rent to be a part of the community for a little while.

Some people sign up to tour the Green Village and factory, while others book a few nights to experience it. The village is comprised of 15 or so different bamboo houses, eco villas, and cottages together along a river. They are all VERY impressive and beautiful and constructed entirely from bamboo for the true Bali bamboo house experience. The houses have anywhere from 1 to 5 bedrooms in all different constructions.

You can check out tour booking and visit info here or some of their villas for rent on Airbnb. Click the link below and scroll down to view all the host’s listings – there are a lot and they’re all stunning.

Aura House Bali: Most Famous Green Village Bali Bamboo Eco Villa

Aura House is perhaps the most famous Bali bamboo house within the Green Village – so much that it has its own website. Many don’t know it is part of Green Village (and it was worth mentioning in its own heading). This beautiful 3-story bamboo house is in northern Badung (between Canggu and Ubud) and is set on the river, surrounded by rainforest.

Aura House is known for its beautiful egg-shaped glass revolving door, and also for beautiful flower petal baths. If you check out the other listings of the Airbnb host you will be able to find other different and even more spectacular Green Village bamboo houses to rent as well.

Sideman Bali Bamboo House Options

If you haven’t heard of Sideman, don’t stop scrolling just yet. This is one of the most MAGICAL places in Bali and home to some of the very best and most famous Bali bamboo houses in Bali.

Camaya Bali – Magical Bamboo Eco Villas in Sideman

Camaya might be home to the most famous Bali Bamboo Houses on the island. Made famous with a hanging net bed with a view of the jungle and rice fields, Camaya has hosted scores of influencers and photographers in their incredible bamboo houses – I think they now have 8 rooms in total.

The first house (with the most famous net bed) is called the Suboya House. The next ones in line are the Butterfly House (with a large ground-level net bed and upstairs movie room), Lotus House, and Pyramid House. I have explained each room in-depth in my Camaya Bali article. Since I last visited, they completed three new rooms: the Santai, Sayang, and Metangi. The Nirvana room is the only one that is not bamboo.

Camaya is located in the village of Selat, just north of Sideman and about an hour east of Ubud. Each Camaya House is completely unique, and they are all incredible. Check out more Bali net bed hotels here.

Hideout Bali Bamboo Eco Villa Group

Hideout Bali is another well-known bamboo house group in the Sideman area – actually not far from Camaya. The property has quite a few different and unique bamboo houses of varying sizes from 2-4 people – Hideout Bali, Lightroom, Horizon, Beehive, Falcon, and Hay House, and they have opened a few more since I last checked. All are set in the jungle, surrounded by green and with plunge pools and open interiors.

I recommend either the Horizon or Beehive as they are larger, more photogenic, and everything you would want out of a Bali Bamboo house experience. But, all of them are incredible.

Veluvana Bali Bamboo Houses with a View

Beautiful Veluvana Bali (Photo from Veluvana Bali Media)

Veluvana Bali is a newer bamboo house property in central Sideman with AMAZING views. Veluvana started with a stunning one-off bamboo house (pictured above) that opened in 2020 and has gained lots of popularity due to its amazing architecture and views.

Now, Valuvana has 8 different, totally unique bamboo-based accommodations, all with incredible views and even more impressive architecture. Each is named after a different creature, such as manta, own, scorpio, snail, and octopus house. Each has private space and beautiful pool areas.

Veluvana’s main bamboo house has a hanging net bed and bed swing, and open kitchen, a private pool, and an incredible view of rice terraces for miles and even the tip of Mt Agung in the distance. Check different houses for unique designs – Octopus is incredible!

Kumbuh Jungle Bamboo House

Lovely Kumbuh Jungle (Photo from Airbnb)

Kumbuh Jungle is another beautiful single bamboo house in Bali- located quite remotely (roughly centered between Sideman, Besakih, and Tegallalang). Created from bamboo by local architects, Kumbuh Jungle is an eco-bamboo house with one bedroom but a capacity up to 4.

It’s got a private pool with a net overlooking it, a beautiful hanging deck and outdoor dining space, and an epic view over a river valley. It’s great for a getaway – romantic or otherwise!

Bird Hills Bamboo House

Bird Hills Bali (Photo from Airbnb)

Last but not least, the Bird Hills Bamboo House up in the hills of Sideman is another spectacular option for a jungle experience – with a view. Bird Hills is one of the smaller Bali bamboo houses, with a capacity for two in one enclosed bedroom with an outdoor dining area, basic kitchen, and shower/bathroom area. THey have now dded three more houses to their repertoire for a total of hour houses.

The best thing about this place is the incredible view. You’ll have to climb up some hills to get here, but it will be worthwhile waking up to the hills of Sideman in the morning!

And that’s about all the Bali bamboo house options I know of! Always happy to add more in – let me know your thoughts and which is your favorite in the comments below.
