12 COOLEST and BEST Boutique Hotels in Canggu Area, Bali

I get asked where to stay in Canggu ALL the time as a resident here. And after living here for years, I have finally gone out to truly and properly discover the best boutique hotels in Canggu for myself…. and now, for you! I think boutique hotels are the best option for a stay in Canggu, so you can have a stunning and private space but with access to amenities like restaurants, concierge, coworking, yoga, pool area, and more included.

I often get asked for the most unique and design-forward places, but I also get asked for the most affordable places to stay in Canggu or nicer places for better rates – so I have listed all kinds of options below! Each heading includes what I think each hotel is best for, from a boujie getaway to an affordable & cute stay with a view.

Before we get into it – yes, I have personally visited every hotel on this list. I did walkthroughs, toured the rooms where possible, saw the common areas, and took my own photos (some in very rainy-season lighting… which will be obvious). 😛

I haven’t personally stayed overnight in every single one, but I’ve been inside them all to form my own opinions to write about – and in a place like Canggu, that’s important! Hotels can look one way on Instagram and feel completely different in person. So yeah – these are my honest picks for the best boutique hotels in Canggu, and why!

Boutique Hotels in Canggu for Super Modern & Aesthetic Design

Here are the most unique hotels in Canggu for interesting design. These are modern or unique in architecture, design, and decor, are very photogenic, and in general have truly amazing spaces.

The Bohemian

Best For: a more private, upscale, fully designed, boutique stay with only 6 rooms

One Word: Stunning. Honestly, wow.

The Bohemian might be the most uniquely design-forward property on this entire list. The whole adults -only 5-star hotel is built around a black base palette – black walls, deep tones – layered with suede, velvet textures, wood, and bold colorful art.

There are only six rooms total, with a few different styles. They’ve got more standard hotel-style rooms, and then these massive high-ceiling lofts (pictured above) with private pools that look like they’ve been pulled straight out of a design catalogue. The lofts are genuinely livable (like, I want to move in, haha) with a full kitchen, dining table, flat screen TV, and huge open space.

There’s a communal pool with a great vibe, breakfast, cocktails, and coffee served onsite, and every corner feels aesthetic and elegantly cozy. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but if design is your thing, this one is hard to beat.

The location is on the middle of Batu Bolong, making it walkable to a lot of restaurants and bars and very central to get a car or scooter anywhere else.

Shore Amora

Shore Amora view from balcony room
View from a low balcony room (on a grey day oops)

Best For: all-around amazing hotel with pool club, restaurant, coworking, rooms with pool or view, modern boutique design, social aspect, proximity to the beach. This place has it all!

Shore Amora is one of my top modern boutique picks in Pererenan, which is really the more hip area of Canggu these days.

Shore Amora offers either rooms overlooking the pool (“Urban Suites”), complete with balconies and outdoor tubs, or one-bedroom private “Nomad” pool villas facing the rice fields that run through the center of the property. Both are genuinely stunning and a perfect mix of amazing design and comfort.

The location is excellent, one of the best on this list. It’s walking distance to Pererenan Beach and right on the street with some of Pererenan’s trendiest restaurants and bars.

Their pool is also home to Boheme Canggu, a pool club open to the public with daily food and drink deals. It has amazing energy and is great if you want a more social stay, but something to consider if you want total privacy. They also have a coworking space and a solid menu.

El Barrio Boutique Hotel

Best For: COLORFUL AESTHETIC, bold and different, amazing spaces with unique design

Driving down a relatively quiet street, you suddenly pull into a driveway and see the brightest purple building you’ve ever laid eyes on. It’s El Barrio – a Mexico and Brazil-themed and possibly one of the most design-forward boutique hotels on the island.

The common areas are gorgeous – colorful restaurant, beautiful pool, bold design moments and eclectic decor everywhere. Each room is a different color and shares the same modern, curved, almost-60s-mod aesthetic with Adobe-style finishes.

El Barrio is a bit farther out in Umalas, but still close to Berawa. To be totally honest, it’s not my favorite location… but I would absolutely make an exception for this place. You can still get everywhere easily.

Belajar Bali Boutique Hotel & Maja Canggu

Best For: Stunning, pure Bali simple white aesthetic, 5-star experience

These are two separate boutique hotels right next to each other, owned by the same people, and also connected to the very popular Maja Spa, studio, and Café (the one that went viral for having matcha pilates, lol).

Belajar has eight rooms arranged around a central pool and shared kitchen. Guests are served fruit and coffee, and there’s a communal living room that makes it feel intimate and homey. The rooms are simple yet super elegant, beautiful, and all face the pool with thatched roofs and clean, Bali-minimal lines.

Maja, right next door, leans more white and bright – white walls contrasting beautifully with the blue of the pool water, creating that very Bali-aesthetic, photoshoot-style vibe. The design is slightly more modern and polished, but still relaxed, and there’s only 5 rooms.

Both are very aesthetic, very peaceful, and very much that “Bali Pinterest” energy – and being attached to Maja Spa and Café is a bonus. The location is at a central point on Batu Bolong, walking distance to the supermarket and lots of restaurants, easy to grab a gojek from.

Further Hotel

Further hotel rooms design
Photo from website – to show the cool, minimalistic room design

Best For: verryyy trendy, upscale, cool boutique Pererenan hotel connected to some great venues, in a great Pererenan location

Further is newer, very cool, and definitely more on the high-end side, having won a few different hotel awards. The rooms are minimalistic and aesthetic, and the location in Pererenan couldn’t really be better – walking distance to anything. They have lots of different room types, so make sure to look through them!

The hotel has 25 rooms spread across four buildings (they call it a ‘diffused hotel concept’), all in a distinctive brick-toned pattern. It’s home to Bar Vera and St Ali – both genuinely good quality food and drink spots, and Oaken Lab in another building, which sells scents for body and home. Across these buildings are different room types that are just as aesthetic as you can get! And, the rooftop bar is open to the public with excellent vibes.

ZIN Canggu

Best For: If you love a stay steps from the beach that includes a gym, spa, coworking, restaurant, shop, and ultra modern-meets-Bali bamboo design

Out the back of the famous ZIN Cafe – known for coworking and great food – is their hotel, surrounded by fitness spaces including Zycle (my fave spin studio) and Zinfit gym.

There are multiple bamboo-roof buildings with polished concrete structures, lush gardens, and at least three pools. It genuinely feels jungle-y, but you’re steps from the beach and surrounded by cafes.

I peeked into one room – clean, modern, well-appointed, private. But they actually have quite a few different room styles, from private pool suites, teak rooms, bamboo rooms, and deluxe rooms with pool access or ocean views. Zin is of the closest boutique hotels on this list to the beach, right on the border between Canggu and Berawa.

A lot of the rooms on booking (link below) include breakfast and some extras like a 15 minute massage, shop discount, a zycle class, and daily cocktails… pretty cool.

Boutique Hotels in Canggu for Balinese Culture & Architecture

So you want something truly BALI, but still boutique? The hotels below have you covered!

Hotel Tugu Bali

Hotel Tugu Bali lobby
Very Bali from the first step inside!

Best For: a splurge-worthy hotel that truly incorporates Balinese culture and design, right on the busiest beach in Canggu, next to popular venues

If you want culture and location, this is the one. Hotel Tugu is built around and incorporates an ancient temple within the grounds, which is also part of their rooftop restaurant, Ji (open to the public, and excellent for sunset happy hour).

The entire hotel is a celebration of Balinese history and art, with a Chinese influence from the owner. Each room (or bale) is dedicated to different periods of history and filled with artifacts and stories. The attention to detail is insane!

They offer cooking classes, have a yoga shala with multiple classes a day, a beautiful pool, and rooms with private pools or jacuzzis. They even have a unique lillypad pond with a boardwalk to get to certain rooms at the back – very photoenic and surprising for central Canggu! And the location? Steps from Old Man’s, Mexicola, The Lawn, and Sand Bar. Yes, the street can be lively at night – but inside the hotel, it feels peaceful.

If you are traveling around Indonesia, make sure to check Hotel Tugu’s different locations which all mix in the local culture with Chinese touches.

Kalapa Boutique Resort & Yoga

Kalapa Boutique Resort & Yoga family room
the massive family room!

Best For: VERY AFFORDABLE boutique yoga resort with multiple pools + restaurant on a river – supre cute rooms in traditional Balinese joglos

Kalapa might be the most “Ubud in Canggu” you can get! It’s spread across both sides of a small river, so you genuinely feel immersed in the jungle. Here, you can see the river flowing and hear nature – it doesn’t feel like the busy Canggu we know. The location is a bit farther removed (north of Raya Canggu street), but 5 minutes from central Canggu, no matter what.

The rooms are traditional Balinese joglo-style with local wood, bed nets, and beautiful Balinese details. They offer 1BR villas and different levels of private bungalows. Some have private pools and outdoor bathrooms; others are large, high-ceiling family rooms.

There’s a small yoga studio with daily classes, two jungle-facing pools, and a restaurant open to the public. It’s a short drive to everything, but feels completely separate once you’re inside. I put the link to booking.com below, but it does seem like Agoda has significantly cheaper rates for this property (it did at the time of writing this).

La Reserve 1785

Best For: An Adults-Only, splurge-worthy 5-star oasis that blends Balinese design with modern and super luxurious touches.

La Reserve 1785 has only 13 rooms, and the property overlooks a river, with high-ceilinged Balinese architecture mixed with modern art and bold red accents throughout – including red pool cabanas and walls. It’s like Bali meets modern art, surrounded by luscious gardens and a beautiful pool.

The rooms are elegant and well-appointed, with beautiful bathrooms, truly unique art inside each one, and some private pool villas (I loved the glass-walled shower overlooking the private pool – such a cool touch).

The spa is also stunning and open to the public, as is the restaurant, which offers many cuisines. It feels intimate, artistic, classy, and elevated without being over the top.

Boutique Hotels in Canggu on a Budget (But Still Cute)

The places below are all still cute, aesthetic, vibey boutique hotels in Canggu, but are specifically easy on the budget. You’re welcome.

Ponder Bali Canggu

Ponder Bali Canggu aesthetic boutiqie colorufl hotel pererenan Bali pool
Pool area
Loft style apartment room Ponder Bali
Bedroom of a studio loft room – which has a bed AND a sofa bed

Best For: When you want a cute, aesthetic stay that won’t break the bank (at all) with apartment-like features and kitchenette options in central Pererenan

Ponder is new as of 2025, and already very vibey. The entire property is light pink with colorful tiles, dark pink and brown accents, bougainvillea spilling over walls, and cacti lining the pool. It’s playful without being cheesy, and begs to be used as a photo backdrop.

There are a few room styles, from standard rooms to lofts, but most have bathtubs and whole kitchens or at least kitchenettes. The rooms are basically little apartments that are simple, pastel-toned, quaint, and very cute – this spot would make a great base for a longer stay.

There’s also a cafe at the front that’s part of the building, which adds to the whole lifestyle feel. Very aesthetic. Very Pinterest-board-meets-Bali. It should be in the ‘aesthetic’ section of this post, but the rates are so good I moved it to budget!

BoHo Canggu

BoHo Canggu boutique hotel common pool area
Top pool area

Best For: when you want a super cute beachy mermaid aesthetic without breaking the bank, quiet area with a rice field view and cute pool area to relax by

BoHo Canggu gives mermaid beach house vibes with teal and shell decor, painted wood, world map accents, and beautiful rice field views. There are two pools and lots of little lounge areas. It’s a tiny bit worn around the edges and undergoing renovations, but honestly very cute (especially for the price), and the rooms are immaculate, clean, and lovely.

BoHo has friendly service and a restaurant onsite, and is definitely more affordable than some of the super design-heavy options. BoHo is a tiny bit farther out than some hotels, but only 5 minutes from anywhere in Canggu and 10 from the beach.

FRii Bali Echo Beach

Best For: If you just want an affordable and comfy space with a view next to the beach, to surf.

It’s a little aged, but in a charming, beachy way. The location is amazing (less than 500m to popular surf spots, with surfboards and instructors here too). The colorful pool, rooftop restaurant, cafe in the lobby, and frequent food and drink deals (2-for-150k cocktails with fries, 50k meal deals, etc) make it a good option for the cheapest place on this list (I think it’s cheaper direct than booking, FYI).

If you want almost-boutique vibes at a really affordable price, this is a solid option. Some rooms open directly onto the pool, which many love. It feels casual, surfer-friendly, comfortable, chill, and doesn’t try too hard. And the rooftop is a big feature that not many hotels on this list have!
